Dressed in a gown one of her sons helped design, Diana Ross stopped traffic on the red carpet at the recent Met Gala in New York City. “Everything was really, really at last moment. My son persuaded me [to come], ‘cause I’m actually on tour,” Diana told Vogue livestream host La La Anthony.

At 81, Diana is still going strong. She’ll be spending June and July in Europe, before returning to the United States for four shows in California in late summer. “I'll never retire,” says the singer, who spent the earlier part of the year on tour in the United States.

Even as she continues to travel the world, Diana keeps her family close. Her Met Gala gown’s shawl paid special tribute to her kin. “It has the names of all my children and my eight grandchildren, so everybody’s name is embroidered,” Diana said at the event.
