Carbon credits become more accessible to farmers

While presenting opportunities to not only earn additional income but fund the very practices that will make farms more resilient, the carbon credits market has been slow in delivering promised returns.

Farmers are however moving one step closer to boosting regenerative agriculture (RA) efforts. Standard Bank Business and Commercial Banking recently announced a partnership with Orizon Agriculture, a South African carbon project developer, that enables farmers to turn RA practices into verified carbon credits, while participating in carbon markets without being burdened by the complex administration process.

The partnership aims to help farmers who are already improving soil health or reducing on-farm emissions translate those efforts into supplementary income, while continuing to focus on productive, commercially viable farming.
