Telangana's recognition as BioSpectrum India's Best Performing State in Life Sciences 2025 is a timely validation of the direction the state has taken in recent years-one anchored in execution, responsiveness, and a clear understanding of where global life sciences value chains are headed.

Telangana: Building India's Most Credible Life Sciences Ecosystem

With Hyderabad at its centre, Telangana has built an ecosystem that spans pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, vaccines, medical devices, and digital health, while steadily expanding its footprint in research, innovation, and advanced capabilities.

Over the last few years, the state has focused on getting the fundamentals right: creating dependable industrial infrastructure, accelerating approval timelines, aligning skilling with real industry demand, and moving decisively beyond scale-driven manufacturing toward higher-value R&D and innovation-led activities. This approach has translated into strong investor confidence and tangible outcomes on the ground.

A Global Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Powerhouse

Today, Telangana is home to over 2,000 life sciences companies, with Hyderabad widely recognised as one of the world's most important vaccine and pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs.

The state accounts for nearly 40 per cent of India's pharmaceutical production and hosts over 269 US FDA-approved manufacturing facilities-among the highest concentrations globally. With Hyderabad contributing close to one-third of global vaccine output, this depth of regulatory and manufacturing capability has made Telangana a preferred base for companies serving highly regulated international markets.

Moving Beyond Manufacturing to Innovation-Led Growth

The life sciences ecosystem in Telangana is valued at approximately $100 billion. Importantly, this scale has not been built through manufacturing alone. Growth has been driven equally by deeper engagement between global companies, Indian industry leaders, startups, and research institutions-creating an environment where products are not only made, but increasingly conceived, developed, and scaled for global markets.
