Meeting Maneka Gandhi

When Maneka Gandhi was scheduled to arrive in Bombay in 1994, Bolshoi was desperate to meet her just to shake her hand and thank her for all she did for dogs. Busybee tried to dissuade him, but in vain! We are certain all strays would like to meet Maneka even today when she continues to fight their cause

Every time Mrs Maneka Gandhi comes to town, my dog Bolshoi the Boxer gets excited. So when he heard this morning that she was in town, he told me: “This time, at least, you can fix up an appointment for me with her.”

“I don’t think she would have time to meet you,” I said. “She is a very busy person, she comes and she goes.

“Mrs Gandhi may not have time to meet you, but she will meet me,” Bolshoi said. “She is very fond of dogs and other dumb animals and has given up her political career to look after them.”

I said, “First of all, you talk. Also her interest is in stray dogs, who are maltreated by municipality, not you, who live off the fat of the land and do not work.”
