The Enchanting Kingdom of Animals Catch Them Young

I have been noticing more and more countries of the world are enacting kinder and more empathetic rules where animals, particularly dogs are concerned. And thank God for that.

Inculcating feelings for animals should begin early in life. Which is why I like what Denmark does. This country requires every child aged between 6 and 16 to take a weekly empathy class that includes being kind to animals.

Globally every country is now getting into the act. Germany recognises animals as beings with feelings in its constitution; mandates daily walks for dogs. Fines go as high as Euro 25,000 for violations. Spain has just granted pets legal status as family members, not property.

Switzerland has very strict laws. It requires socialisation for dogs. It bans punishment-based training and has strict breeder and ownership rules. Dog parents here have to undergo a training course. Those violating rules could have their pets confiscated and a future ban on possession of a pet, imposed. The best is that strong public support and high awareness makes enforcement of laws very effective. Little wonder that Switzerland scores high in many indexes and is considered among the best places to live.

Austria bans selling puppies in pet shops. It mandates proper housing and exercise. And there are strict fines for animal cruelty.
