Let’s not talk about what a year it has been. Anyone who doesn’t know what a year it has been must have spent it sealed in a cave without wifi. There were times when some of us might have wished for that option, but I don’t recall it being offered. Instead, we got months that felt as long as years and a growing realisation that things were never quite going to be the same again.

As a result, Christmas this year really does feel like a day for thanks, gratitude, and the warm and well-fed company of loved ones, with gifts rendered almost redundant by the gift of reaching our own light at the end of our very own tunnel.
