STEP 4 HEROES IN THE FA CUP
NEIL YOUNG says Marine’s FA Cup first-round upset of Colchester United is one of the greatest achievements by one of his teams – and dedicated it all to the volunteers and fans of the Step 4 club.
In arguably the shock of the round, Young’s Marine – who had already knocked his former club Chester out of the competition – beat the League Two U’s on penalties.
It sparked wild celebrations in Essex on a day to saviour for the Pitching In NPL Division One North West club.
They will now host National League South Havant & Waterlooville on live TV with a chance to reach the third round proper.
“It’s amazing. The board members there made enough noise,” Young told The NLP.
“From my perspective as a manager, it’s your football club because you are managing there, but in Non-League, for some of these people it’s been their life’s work.
