Ace makes a stand for mental health

NATHAN CARTMAN hopes running a marathon today can encourage people to keep speaking out about their mental health – and be finished in time that he can watch his beloved Leeds United play Man United!

The Scarborough Athletic striker, who has enjoyed a prolific Non-League career with promotions at Brighouse, Darlington and Farsley Celtic, recently opened up about his own struggles exacerbated by lockdown.

But, with the help of Northern Premier League partner Andy’s Man Club, the 31-year-old is on the right path again and he wants to raise awareness to help others who may be having difficulties.

Andy’s Man Club is the NPL’s official mental health partner, and host a growing number of “meets” across the country providing a space for men to talk about their problems without judgement or feeling like a burden.

At 9 am this morning, Cartman will set off around his hometown of Halifax on a 26.2mile run and hopes it keeps the mental health conversation going with more than £500 already raised too.
