A hat-trick from Courtney Duffus inspired the Glovers to a 6-2 victory over their local rivals, who have now lost seven consecutive National League games.

Yeovil were three up inside 15 minutes in front of more than 5,000 at Huish Park and piled on the misery with three more strikes in the second half to leave boss Darren Sarll purring.

“I’ve been hoping for a statement-y performance, one that kind of says how serious we are even though there are so many games to go,” he said. “They were brilliant today.

“They’re playing with real aggression, great energy, enthusiasm and we’ve still got that instinct.”

The result cut Barrow’s advantage at the top after they conceded a late equaliser at home to AFC Fylde.
