BARROW end 2019 on top of the National League table – a position few would have predicted, yet one they wholeheartedly deserve.
Still, they were made to work hard to extend their lead at the summit to one point as Hartlepool showed character to come back from a Boxing Day thumping at Harrogate.
The Bluebirds twice led but were twice pegged back and boss Ian Evatt said: “I feel like it is points dropped, but I felt Hartlepool were a bit of a wounded animal after losing heavily at Harrogate.
“They changed formation to match us up, which is a plus for us. We got ourselves in front twice, two very good goals. Twice we switched off in the game, twice they punished us.
