Owner and Creative Director of Urban Chic Salon, Amy Gaudie shares her professional journey with us
The first step
All I wanted to do as a little girl was to grow up and be a hairdresser. When I was 13, I joined a salon as an assistant and decided to complete my training. I then followed my then-partner now husband to Germany, where I established a freelance business. Quickly word spread in the expatriate community on my eye for hair fashion and my skill base. Just like that my career took off. It is my dream job!
Family support
I have two families – four children aged 18, 11, 8 and 7, with my husband Jeff; and my work family and salon girls. They all keep me on my toes! I still remember how I met my husband - I was on a night out with my friends and he was with a group of men who looked like they were in the Army. We got talking and I asked him what he did, he said he was a hairdresser and in town for a hair competition. I smiled and told him that I too was a hairdresser and did not know of any competition taking place. He quickly changed his mind and owned up to being in the Army and we had a good laugh!
