Sun Safe!

Summer is called a kid’s best season as schools shut and vacations start. But, from playing out in the hot sun to being soaked in sweat all day, there are a heap of problems that can cause havoc on your kid’s health. Dr Chaitali Laddad, founder and director, The Pediatric Network, decodes the effects of summer on children, and prescribes remedies to keep them safe and healthy.

Health effects of summer on children:

Although summer brings with it a great amount of fun, it is also the major culprit behind the myriad threats on your child’s health. A number of health issues like heat strokes, asthma attacks, skin rashes, infections and allergies come with the summer season. While all might not be essentially serious, in most cases, they are fatal enough to send you scrambling for medication.

Kids engrossed in playing tend to forget to drink water. This peril increases when kids regularly play outdoors and perspire a lot. With it, your child’s body becomes hotter, the muscle enzymes tend to speed up and glycogen burns more quickly, reducing the sugar stores that your muscles utilize for fuel which leads to dehydration and dizziness.
