Revenge Sex

It’s only human to feel betrayed and humiliated after being dumped. But will sex with a vengeance ease the pain.

Revenge sex is quite different from having a fling on the rebound. While they work on the same principle of sleeping with someone else to get over an ex, there’s one little difference. A rebound is about making you feel better; revenge sex is about making your ex feel worse. A study conducted by the University of Missouri on 170 undergraduate students showed that 25 to 30 per cent of newly single people resorted to revenge and rebound sex. Revenge sex gives you the instant wicked pleasure of hitting where it hurts the most (no wonder it’s popular), but it also reveals the depth of your own hurt and rage.

Rachna K Singh, clinical psychologist and life coach, says, “The urge for revenge sex may also come into play to restore a person’s self-worth. This may feel like the only way to gain the upper hand amidst their inner turmoil.” Many people who have had revenge sex say it was a liberating experience.
