WatchOS 6: More Power Than Ever On Your Wrist

In perhaps its most jam-packed WWDC keynote to date, Apple lifted the lid on a whole host of enhancements to its operating systems earlier this month - including watchOS. With a dedicated App Store, better health tracking, new apps, and beautifully designed watch faces, watchOS 6 gives users more power on their wrists. This week, we delve deeper into the release…

THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT…

When Apple launched the Apple Watch back in 2015, the company marketed the product as a companion or extension to the iPhone read text messages, unlock your Mac, ask Siri a question, and control your iPhone camera from your wrist. Over the past couple of years, however, Apple has been keen to distance the Apple Watch from the iPhone, enhancing the wearable so that it can be worn without needing an iPhone in your pocket. With cellular connectivity, Apple revolutionized the Apple Watch experience - it’s now possible to go for a jog and listen to music, podcasts, or take phone calls without needing to bring your phone, offering greater functionality without a screen. With watchOS 6, Apple takes that to the next level, introducing a new App Store that allows users to download watchOS apps directly to their Apple Watch for the first time.

Apple Watch’s App Store is a full store where you can browse, search, and purchase curated apps from Apple editors. Just as with the iOS App Store, consumers can peruse through app product pages to find information like reviews, ratings, pricing, and screenshots, and what’s perhaps most interesting is that developers will be able to offer standalone Watch apps on watchOS 6 - they won’t need to launch a companion iPhone app to build for Apple Watch.
