BMW has slowly been expanding its SUV portfolio that started with the X5 two decades back. First it added the X3 to its portfolio and then made a bold move by launching the X6 and followed it up with the X1 a decade back and has since plugged all the gaps with the X4 and then the X2. All that was left was to move up and there was an opportunity to cater to markets like China and the US where the demand for large cars is huge and four years after making the announcement, we got a glimpse of the SUV last year and then an opportunity to drive it ahead of its launch in India later in the year.
