THIS GAME-CHANGING ELECTRIC SEDAN POINTS THE WAY FORWARD
Lithium-sulfur battery promises 3x energy density, pricing that undercuts combustion.
Might lithium-sulfur batteries push solid-state aside as The Next Big Thing in battery technology? Silicon Valley battery tech company Lyten just came out of stealth mode at September's Motor Bella car show/mobility conference in metro Detroit after several years of federally funded research, and it made a very promising pitch: Triple the energy per weight!
The one new car I most want to drive.
The Big Picture
2021 Ford F-150
No, no—relax. There is no V-8 under the hood of the 2021 F-150 Raptor. At least, not yet—Ford says the eight-cylinder Raptor R super truck is rumbling its way toward the horizon break and should arrive sometime next year. For now, the standard Raptor is the top-of-the-line off-road baddie from the F-150 family.
2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz
MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year competition isn’t a comparison test, but when it came to the new Hyundai Santa Cruz, judges found it difficult to avoid comparisons with the Ford Maverick, the other new compact pickup that dropped this year.
2022 Ford Maverick
It’s been a long time since Americans have been able to buy a new compact pickup truck, but as the 2022 Ford Maverick proves, it’s not the size of your truck that matters, but rather how you use it.
2022 Hyundai Kona N

#Minivanlife
From the 1980s through the late ’90s, families and minivans went together like ketchup and French fries. That was certainly the case among my friends’ families, all of whom drove around Mexico City in white Ford Windstars. Our own green Windstar was easier to spot in our school’s pickup/ drop-off line, but its sliding door, spacious interior, and carlike ride were no less perfect for our usual carpool of six. Prior to that van, we had a red Windstar and a white Chrysler Voyager, but those ended up being stolen. See, we told you minivans were popular.

Who hasn’t been stuck seething at an interminable red light with zero cross-traffic?
WITHOUT ITS ROADSTER, PORSCHE MIGHT NOT EXIST TODAY
That was the headline on a New York Times story published on January 20, 1996, detailing the German marque’s effort to turn around its finances and reinvent the way it had built cars for more than 40 years.

2022 Volkswagen Golf R
Drifting a Volkswagen Golf is weird. Like, really weird. The Golf has long been a beacon of front-wheel drive—and FWD-based all-wheel-drive— excellence, but getting its rear to swing wide typically meant yanking a handbrake or getting hit by a dump truck.
