HOME and AWAY

This Gold Coast home has been transformed into an idyllic family escape with plenty of wow moments and nods to the Mediterranean.
As with all their projects, builders and designers 4D Renovations did a “vibe check” with the owners of this home before signing on. “We shared the same vision and everyone was aligned,” says interior designer Casey Schmidt, who worked with Nicola van den Heever and the wider 4D team. “These clients were a great fit because they had built before and understood the realities and challenges that can come with a project of this nature. That experience meant they valued collaboration, trusted the process and were prepared to work together to achieve the best possible outcome.”
Designed for a Brisbane-based family of four, this holiday house on the Gold Coast was intended to be a blissful escape without any pretension. “They didn't want anything luxe, they wanted a home away from home,” says Casey of the brief. “We wanted it to feel different to their permanent home, which is quite classic. It really needed to feel like they were on holiday.”
