HACK 1
BYOB
Bring your own bag, that is. In Singapore alone, about 700 million kilogrammes of plastic waste is discarded annually — and less than 10 percent is recycled. But, there are easy ways to reduce plastic use, including bringing your own bags when shopping. That’s just one smart initiative by community-based Plastic-Lite Singapore. Its newest programme is Bounce Bags, which makes reusable shopping bags (think fabric totes) available at designated sharing points. Currently, bags can be donated or borrowed at a single sharing point such as the sheltered walkway leading to a wet market beside Block 293, Yishun Street 22. Or, contact the site to propose a Bounce Bag drop spot near you. (www.plasticlite.sg)
