How ‘Not' To Become Bridezilla

Planning a wedding can really take a toll on you, which is why a lot of couples prefer to hire professionals who can take over for them. Although that is a stress-free solution, it can get quite expensive. And so, there are many couples who choose to put together themselves, despite the pressure, in order to use the saved up cash on the honeymoon instead. If you are thinking on the same lines, here are some tips and advice that will help you plan a stellar wedding without having to stress out.

Step One: Invitations

• First and foremost, have discussions with your parents and siblings about who they would like to invite. This would allow you to get a more realistic figure from very early on, which will help you pick the right location in order to fit all the invited guests.

• Divide your guests into ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ lists. Put your closest friends and family on the ‘A’ list and send them the first round of invites. Once they have been invited, you can move on to lists ‘B’ and ‘C’. Diving the guests into lists helps you cut down when the need arises; chopping names from the ‘B’ and ‘C’ lists is easier as you are not as close to them as guests on list ‘A’.

• When it comes to cutting names, you will need to make some rules early on and follow them strictly, otherwise you will never get anywhere. One common method that many couples use is the ‘1 year’ question. If you haven’t heard from the guest for over a year, then you should not feel obligated to call him/her to your wedding.

• Bringing down the guest list to match your budget is a tricky task and once you get to the figure you are satisfied with, do not make any last minute additions. It may not seem like a lot of extra work at first, but it may just end up becoming a big hassle.

MUSINGS OF A SOLDIER: TIT-BITS

People often ask me about my life out of uniform. Honestly, I have had no problems. Not so far. Instead, I find it quite refreshing. No routine, no parades, no briefing, no impending operations. Having donned the uniform since the age of thirteen until I hung up my boots last year, could I ever visualize life out of uniform? Not really. But, as I said, the transition has been quite smooth–no hang-overs, no regrets. People have been very positive in their interactions. Government departments have been responsive whenever I have approached for assistance. The genuine respect for the uniform is quite evident and it makes my heart swell with pride. Arunachal, to that extent, is the most nationalistic state in the country, I daresay. It has been kind of a revelation for me to experience the freedom of being a common man in an environment of positivity!
