Minimalism In The Indian House The Matt House

A house with a single philosophy in design, select natural materials and functional aesthetics.

Architect’s Note:

Matt house doesn’t solely suggest a house with matt finishes and textures; it has to do with the nature of being matt – a way of living that is not glossy, neither showy nor built to impress one’s guests.

The house or a residence, beyond a shelter, it is a metaphor unto oneself. It becomes a window into one’s personality, conveying a story of how one lives; an orchestra of one’s being. Studio Course has designed a residence that is not necessary for public view, but is solely a manifestation of the lives of the clients which was devoid of any inclination to impress. Yet, the manner in which this “non-glossy” space has been conceived must be perceived and comprehended.The desires of the client to own a place that would be “simple and a great place to live in” are in concurrence with the firm’s philosophy that runs through all their projects. The architect seeks the functional and utilitarian by means of modest designs. The resultant space is minimal in form, revels in natural materials and finishes, and in the process evolves its own discrete aesthetic. In the Matt house, the architect has demonstrated the simplicity of living through such an aesthetic.
