Are you ever too old TO FLAUNT THE FLESH?

Gone are the days when women had strict rules to follow when it came to fashion and getting older.

Nowadays we celebrate being able to wear what we want, when we want. But is there a line we shouldn’t cross when it comes to flashing the flesh? Just recently, Jennifer Lopez, 55, faced scrutiny for daring to bare too much in a very revealing bodysuit on stage. While some applauded her confidence, critics thought it was too risqué for a woman of her age. And earlier this month Elizabeth Hurley posed completely naked to celebrate her 60th birthday with some fans calling for her to ‘act her age’ and ‘just be classy’. So in today’s world of female empowerment, is older women flaunting their flesh a step too far and something that should be left to the young? Or should we be celebrating body confidence whatever our age? We speak to two midlife women with very different outlooks.

What has happened to female empowerment, celebrating women who embrace their body, especially as we age? Because while I was in admiration of J.Lo for donning that revealing bodysuit recently, and applauding Liz Hurley for her beautiful nude shots, it seems some critics couldn’t wait to tear them down.

Just a number

And why? Just because of their age. Who decided to only grant permission to young women to flaunt their flesh? Certainly not me. I salute any woman of a certain age who is confident enough to, God forbid, show a bit of skin! What decade are we living in?
