Yes, we've reviewed a silly-money iPad on p62... but there are also some excellent tablet options in the sub-£500 category
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE
What's the story?
Samsung's handsome pad is designed to be a jack of all trades, seemingly aimed at students who like to cram the occasional PUBG frag-fest or TV marathon between lectures.
As the priciest model in this test, the Galaxy Tab S10 FE drifts into premium pricing territory – but in its defence, it does pack the highest-resolution cameras, an included S Pen stylus and Android 16, the very latest version of Google's OS (over which Samsung's own UI flourishes have been bolted). On paper, it's the best tab here.
I wasn't much impressed with its miserly 128GB of builtin storage, but the microSD slot makes adding extra space a cheap job.
Is it any good?
The Exynos 1580 with 8GB of RAM is a mid-range hardware setup, and feels triumphantly zippy next to some of the cheaper tablets here. That's borne out in benchmarks: in a 3DMark graphics test, the Samsung racked up a score four times higher than the Lenovo Idea Tab Plus.
The screen is sharp and bright but the two-speaker array, while it supports Dolby Atmos, does seem lacking in heft. The sound is clear enough, though, and I found Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein perfectly watchable – even if he'd hate me for enjoying it on a tablet.
I found the S Pen to be a game-changer, not only serving as a precise 'mouse' for finger-free scrolling and tapping on the screen but also as a tool in itself – for everything from circling things to Google them, to jotting down maths problems that the tablet will then solve.Factor in the 8000mAh battery and it all equals an impressive, versatile tablet.
