The wedge is history. Two years after Apple shoved its own-brand M1 chip inside an  existing MacBook Air frame, the skinniest laptop in its range has had a complete overhaul both inside and out.

The 2022 edition is perfectly flat – and thin at 11.3mm. That’s way less than its predecessor’s 16.1mm maximum and almost half a centimetre thinner than any MacBook Pro. We thought we’d miss the wedge design; we don’t. The keyboard and ginormous trackpad are great for extended word-smashing sessions.

The reduced and refined screen bezels look smart. Yes, there’s a notch, but it’s less of an issue here than on a phone, and Apple has wisely moved the menu bar up into it.
