Town flood alleviation scheme a step closer

HUNDREDS of homes and businesses in Taunton town centre will be better protected from flooding within 12 months under a long-awaited £6m scheme.

Somerset Council and its predecessors have been working for several years with the Environment Agency (EA) and the Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA) on a series of projects designed to protect Taunton town centre from flooding.
Somerset Council’s executive committee voted this week to push forward with the highest priority scheme, which will see defensive concrete walls erected on two sections of the River Tone.
