The recruitment examination for higher secondary school teachers in West Bengal was conducted smoothly on Saturday, state Education Minister Bratya Basu said, asserting that transparency had been maintained throughout the process despite opposition allegations of irregularities.

- STATESMAN NEWS SERVICE Kolkata, 14 September

The School Service Commission (SSC) held its second round of recruitment exams for teachers of Classes XI and XII on 14 September, following the ninth and tenth standard recruitment test a week earlier.

According to Basu, nearly 229,500 candidates appeared for the exam on Saturday, marking a turnout of 93 per cent. A total of 12,500 teaching posts are up for grabs in this round of recruitment. Addressing reporters after the examination, Basu claimed that the entire process had been "foolproof" and emphasised that merit was given priority.

"The School Service Commission has conducted the exam in a transparent manner. Not a single incident of disruption has been reported from any centre," he said.
