Business confidence slips in 3rd quarter

Business confidence weakened in the third quarter even as consumer sentiment turned less gloomy, but both firms and households see improved conditions in the final three months of the year, according to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Businesses turned less upbeat in the third quarter due to weak demand and the onset of the wet season.
Results of the BSP's latest Business Expectations Survey (BES) showed that the overall business confidence index slipped to 23.2 percent in the third quarter from 28.8 percent in the previous quarter. A positive CI indicates that more firms remain optimistic than pessimistic.
The BSP said the weaker outlook was driven mainly by seasonal factors, such as “the slack in demand during the ghost month and the onset of the rainy and typhoon season,” along with global headwinds including higher US tariffs, geopolitical tensions and weaker foreign demand.
