'Economic stabilisation fund to give fiscal room'

FINANCE minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday slammed the Congress-led UPA government for burdening the country with oil bond-related liabilities of 1.34 lakh crore at the time of leaving the office in 2014.
Responding to the opposition criticism over setting up of ₹1 lakh crore economic stabilisation fund, the finance minister said that the economy today is far more transparent and robust than the so-called “rosy” period of the past, which was supported by off-budget accounting practices.
