Green sector skills gap must be addressed

A new skills programme is needed if the Government is to meet its clean energy decarbonised building targets, MPs have said.

A significant intervention in the UK workforce was needed, according to the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee. Its report said there had been “shocking failures” in previous government-backed retrofit and insulation schemes.

Public funding was needed to address the supply of skills, the committee said, adding that the UK needed an estimated 250,000 additional workers to meet new housing targets, and many more for retrofit.
