THE transformation of a boozer that was a longstanding favourite with Newcastle United fans has seen replacement The Blue Star make a stellar start to city pub life.

- BARBARA HODGSON

Boasting top scran and craft beer, the new addition is already making the most of some winning skills thanks to the team from the popular Tanner's Arms at Byker Bridge, who are running it.

The Blue Star opened on Newcastle's Barrack Road in May, replacing The Black Bull which had advertised itself as the home of United fans.

Its new sign - under the iconic blue star which is longtime feature on the top of the building's corner wall - advertises 'eats, beats and beers' and its new menu is proving an early hit.
