HAVE you ever been to a funeral of someone you thought you knew really well, only to hear things about them that you never knew in the eulogy?

That wasn’t the case for me last weekend when I attended the funeral of a much-loved, inspirational Plymouth businessman, Keith White, managing director of our family jewellers who died at the age of 85.

Keith was a former Surrey, Middlesex and British Junior Squash Champion coached by the members of the legendary Khan dynasty and responsible for opening the first public squash courts in Plymouth back in 70s. He went onto become the president of the Devon Rackets Association, represented Devon and England on the squash courts, and was the South West representative of the Jesters Club of Great Britain.

He always believed in putting back into the community, hence over the years the company has sponsored Cornish Pirates, Plymouth Argyle and Albion, Plymouth Raiders, boxing, Exeter Chiefs, Exeter Diamonds Squash and Somerset Cricket Club. When Plymouth’s own Sharron Davies was training for the Olympics, under the radar, he provided her with a vital piece of equipment.
