Black ice sees roads closed amid warning

BLACK ice saw a number of roads closed in Plymouth yesterday, with temperatures across the region dropping to minus four degrees in some places and snow on higher ground.

Steep roads in Eggbuckland including Reddington Road, Hollycroft Road, Donnington Drive and a section of Valley View Road were all closed due to black ice, together with Holmwood Avenue in Goosewell.

Gritters were sent out yesterday afternoon, while a second sweep of major roads was due to take place in the early hours of this morning. The Met Office had previously issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Devon until noon yesterday, with a second one issued from 12pm today until 11am today.

In the wider region, snow has made conditions difficult on the A386 at Lydford and A3079 in Okehampton.
