Apology amid anger as 'insulting advert undermines teachers'

DRINKS giant Robinsons says that it "understands concerns" of angry parents and staff, after its new ad was slammed for "undermining" teachers.

The TV advert, first broadcast on June 1, shows a mum respond to a call from her son's school by saying: "He's done what?! Ruddy 'ell!'

Viewers next see her in a serious chat with a teacher at the school gates, promising him she will "have words" with her son. But as they sit at the kitchen table later with a glass of squash, both mum and son burst out laughing at his school antics.

Parents and teachers have criticised the 202-year-old brand for fuelling a "parent v teacher" narrative and "insulting" the profession, while others expressed dismay that Robinsons should "value bad behaviour".

The owners of Robinsons said they apologise if the ad has been "interpreted differently". Carlsberg Britvic said: "We deeply value the role of parents, teachers and schools in shaping the next generation.
