Incorrect code led to a build-up of uncollected waste

PILES of rubbish which have blighted the lives of residents at a Runcorn apartment block were partly caused by council bin collectors not being given the correct access code for the communal rubbish area, it has been revealed.

Russ Thornton, a resident at the complex at Maritime Quay, contacted the LDRS to share pictures of overflowing communal bins on the site, which he said had been an ongoing problem 'for months'.

The images show overflowing skips and bins, waste, bin bags and boxes strewn on the floor.

He said the initial issue had been caused by some of the bins being old and needing to be replaced, with the problem then compounded after the management company - Trinity Estates - installed security gates to stop fly-tipping.

But the access code for the locked gates was not provided to Halton Council waste management staff, resulting in missed collections.
