A FIRM that put 50 workers at risk of redundancy just weeks before Christmas has been criticised by a local MP over a "pattern" of pre-Christmas redundancy announcements.
SecAnim, a firm that disposes of animal byproducts, announced it was putting 50 workers at risk of redundancy at its Widnes facility just weeks before Christmas.
The firm said it was making changes to make its business more resilient for the future. The firm also put workers at risk of redundancy days before Christmas 2024.
Widnes and Halewood MP Derek Twigg (Lab) described the "pattern" of redundancy announcements before Christmas as being "hugely concerning" and "devastating" for workers.
The firm said commodity prices have continued to fall and blamed upcoming legislative changes for the planned redundancies, calling the challenges the business faces "uncontrollable".
Redundancies are expected in the new year. The plant processes animal byproducts and generates renewable energy.
