DEVELOPER WANTS TO CHANGE LOCATION AT OLD POWER STATION TO AVOID WAIT FOR DEMOLITION

- By JOSEPH CONNOLLY Local democracy reporter

HUGE AI “data centres” will be built much sooner than expected near the old Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station site - if Rushcliffe Borough Council accepts proposals from the developers.

Uniper UK has applied to amend the “Local Development Order” (LDO) for the area - the huge document that gives blanket planning permission for the 15-year plan - to allow them to change the location of the buildings.

Currently, they have permission to build the centres on the north side of the A453, where the cooling towers currently stand.

But because they’re not due to be demolished until 2030, Uniper has asked the council instead if they can build them on the south side - the left-hand side if driving out from Nottingham - which is more ready to go.
