Bustling suburb split by parking rules plan

SOME RESIDENTS HAVE WELCOMED SCHEME - BUT OTHERS BELIEVE IT WILL HURT BUSINESSES
PLANS for new parking restrictions are a heavily contested issue in the Nottingham suburb of Sherwood.
Some residents arguing they need the parking due to the influx of shoppers, while business owners claim that the move would be the end of the high street.
The plans still in consultation aim to introduce either double yellow lines or resident permit parking schemes on 18 streets surrounding Mansfield Road in Sherwood.
While some residents argue that the plans are necessary, others, along with a range of businesses, claim that the plans could be devastating.
One resident, Michael Brown, who lives in the area affected, said: "I can barely ever find a car parking space. Ever since they got rid of the one at Spondon Street, it's been a nightmare.
"I usually have to walk for 10 minutes after getting out of my car.
"I think it's great they are bringing it in, but I do have some concerns for the businesses."
But while some residents agree with the proposed restrictions, others are less happy with the planned measures.
I can't see the benefit. It knocks the parking on to other areas - it just displaces it
