Axing police and crime commissioners 'a really good thing'

EAST Midlands Mayor Claire Ward says the scrapping of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) in England and Wales is a “really good thing”.

The decision to axe the role was announced in November by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who called PCCs a “failed experiment”.
Elected PCCs such as Nottinghamshire's Gary Godden, will remain in their jobs until 2028, when the role will be subsumed into strategic mayoral roles such as Ms Ward's, with a number of deputies appointed to help with duties.
