Councillor will resign after 160-mile move

A SALFORD councillor who sparked controversy and calls for his resignation after winning a seat 160 miles away in the Cotswolds has finally revealed when he will give up his seat on the city council.

It comes nine months after he moved to the wealthy Tetbury with Upton constituency in Gloucestershire.

At the time, Coun Chris Twells told his colleagues on Salford City Council that he was merely a “paper candidate” for the Cotswolds seat, which also contains King Charles III’s country manor Highgrove House within its border.

However, he won the traditionally Conservative seat in March 2023, by 267 votes to 207 for the Liberal Democrats.
