Trumpet-loving Solano hit the high notes on Tyneside

WHEN Diego Maradona nicknames you 'The Little Maestro', it means you have plenty to blow your own trumpet about.

And Nolberto Solano certainly did that.

The mercurial Peruvian winger won the hearts of the Toon Army during two spells with Newcastle after his arrival from Boca Juniors in 1998.

It was during his time in Argentina that his career overlapped with the great Maradona and Solano - blessed with a wand of a right foot - certainly made an impression on one of the world's greatest-ever players.

But his story is about so much more than what he did on the pitch. Away from the game, his passion is music and particularly the trumpet. So much so that he fronted his own salsa band, the Geordie Latinos.
