Life-savers are the real Sirs & Dames

Three cheers for our public services, who provided superb assistance during this week's storms, police, fire brigade, NHS staff were once again the unsung heroes.

The new year honours list, knighthoods for average acting, Idris Elba, Damehood for unfunny comedian Meera Syal, Torvill and Dean for sliding on ice, they should be ashamed to collect gongs when lifesavers are ignored. 5 stars to the public servants, 0 stars to an out dated so called honours system.
