Because no one ruled the pool like the American legend.

Phelps won an unfathomable 23 Olympic gold medals, and if he hung them around his neck all at the same time, he would fall flat on his face.

But last summer Phelps struggled to contain his excitement while commentating on a race which saw Leon Marchand break his 400m individual medley world record in Japan.

And in less than two tumultuous hours on 'Wonderful Wednesday, the heir to Phelps' throne set these Games on fire.

That was all it took the phenomenal Frenchman to win two gold medals in the same session. Not even Phelps managed that.
