SIR Keir Starmer's future was in the balance this morning following yesterday's crunch by-election in Manchester.

The PM's survival in Downing Street is likely to be heavily influenced by the result of the Gorton and Denton by-election, after it turned into a bitter three-way battle.

Voters in the area went to the polls yesterday in what was once a safe Labour seat.
