League legend eyes comeback

PAUL DEACON is open to returning to rugby league 10 years after switching codes - and is interested in the Catalans vacancy.

The ex-Bradford and Great Britain scrum-half has been on Sale Sharks' coaching staff for the last decade after leaving his role as Wigan assistant.

He was head coach for the last five years, but the Premiership club parted company with him a fortnight ago after the high flyers again failed to push on and claim the title.

Deacon, 46, was one of Super League's great players, winning three Grand Finals with the famous Bulls team of Robbie Paul, Jamie Peacock, Stuart Fielden and Co.

He also lifted the Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge before going on to win the Grand Final and cup again with hometown Wigan.
