GERVAIS BACKS NEW CAMPAIGN TO HELP HOMELESS AND THEIR PETS

RICKY Gervais has long been an advocate for animal rights. Last year alone, he donated £2.43million in profits from his Mortality stand-up tour to 22 animal welfare groups.

The comic did the same in 2024, when he gave away £1.9m from his hit Armageddon tour. And now the critter-loving star, who once called dogs the "greatest thing on earth", is backing a new charity campaign.

Ricky, 64, is just one of the big names calling for an end to policies that can leave homeless pet owners without any support.

About one in four people who are experiencing homelessness have a pet. And many are forced to make the tough decision between shelter and keeping their furry friend due to shocking exclusionary rules.

Ricky says: "Dogs don’t care who you are, what you own, where you live or what's gone wrong in your life. If you're kind to them, they're yours, completely and without judgement. That sort of loyalty and honesty is rare."

For those living on the streets, pooches reduce stress and provide a vital source of comfort. Many owners would rather turn down a roof over their head than be forced to abandon them. But they should not be faced with that decision, Ricky insists.
