Retail job loss hits a new low

NEARLY 400,000 shop jobs have been lost in the past decade, according to an industry body.

The drop includes 97,000 in the past year, fuelled by the last Budget's hike in employers’ National Insurance and the national living wage, according to the British Retail Consortium.

The jump in firms’ costs has also been blamed for large-scale job losses in pubs, restaurants and other hospitality businesses.
