Head of football operations Paul Tisdale was also binned in the wake of Saturday's 3-1 home defeat by Rangers.

Celtic have endured a chaotic campaign with Nancy's tenure brought to an end after nightmare defeats to table-topping Hearts, St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup Final and Rangers on Sunday.

They each had eight games in charge and contrasting fortunes. The 73-year-old won seven, while Nancy lost six.

When ONeill left the club after his interim tenure in early December, the club were level with the Jambos with a game in hand.

Now they trail Derek McInnes men by six points and have allowed the Light Blues to go level on points with the Hoops in second.

But Parkhead icon ONeill was quickly brought back for a second time just hours after the Frenchman was shown the door.

He will be supported by Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham as assistants, as well as Stephen McManus, who will join existing coaches Gavin Strachan, Stevie Woods and Greg Wallace.
