It's a shore thing

NEWHAVEN Breakwater in Edinburgh saw two competitive Shore matches in contrasting conditions last week.
Match 2 of the Edinburgh New Year Shore League 2026 was contested on January 23 at Newhaven Breakwater.
Conditions were far from easy but once again the venue proved its reliability, showing that it can still produce fish even when the weather is against you.
Anglers were kept busy with the usual mix of whiting and codling, along with the welcome appearance of a few Dabs. In total, the 15 competitors caught an impressive 82 fish across the match, a solid return considering the challenging conditions.
The standout performance from Chris Cooper, who put together a dominant display to take a convincing win with 19 fish for 418 points, while Stewart Falconer sat in top spot overall after placing second and third in the two matches.
Scratching was the order of the day as anglers fished the dropping tide in the darkness.
