Get trout & about

THE trout season opens on March 15 and if you're a freshwater angler in Scotland, regardless of species, this is often the proper start of your fishing year.

Many club waters and river season tickets run alongside the trout season while there's still frost in the mornings there are brighter evenings and warmer days ahead.

Even lochs that are open year round like the Lake of Menteith mark the official opening of the trout season.

A flotilla of anglers will toast the upcoming season and head out on the big water this Saturday to the sounds of a piper.

It’s a cracking day to be out wherever you go, the flowers should be in bloom - with Galanthus (snowdrops), Narcissus (daffodils) and Primula vulgaris (primrose) all sure signs that spring is well and truly here.

It's still Scotland so we'll still be packing warm, waterproof clothes of course.
