MAE astudiaeth newydd wedi canfod bod cefnogaeth eang ymhlith aelodau sefydliadau natur yng Nghymru a Lloegr i ladd ceirw gwyllt mewn dull rheoleiddiedig er mwyn lleihau eu niferoedd a'u heffaith.

Yn ôl ymchwil dan arweiniad Prifysgol Bangor a gyhoeddwyd yn People and Nature, hon oedd yr arfer o reoli ceirw a gefnogir ac a ddefnyddir fwyaf.

Mae awduron yr astudiaeth yn credu y gallai'r canfyddiadau helpu sefydliadau natur a'r sawl sy'n gwneud penderfyniadau i deimlo'n fwy hyderus ynglŷn ag argymell defnyddio'r dull hwn.

Cyd-ddyluniodd ymchwilwyr ym Mhrifysgol Bangor a phrifysgolion Reading a Southampton holiadur gyda sefydliadau natur Forest Research, Woodland Trust, y Sylva Foundation a'r Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust i ymchwilio i ganfyddiadau tuag at geirw gwyllt a sut i'w rheoli.

O'r 3,936 o bobl a holwyd, roedd 85% naill ai'n cefnogi neu'n cefnogi'n gryf reolaeth angheuol, ac yna defnyddio dyfeisiau gwarchod coed (82%), ac yna ffensio ceirw (69%).

Dosbarthwyd yr holiadur i aelodau pum sefydliad natur cenedlaethol. Mae dau o'r sefydliadau hyn (Sylva Foundation; The Woodland Trust) yn canolbwyntio ar reoli coetiroedd, tra bod tri (British Association for Shooting and Conservation; British Deer Society; Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust) yn canolbwyntio ar reoli bywyd gwyllt.
