Asylum seeker hotel costs fall by a third

THE cost of housing asylum seekers in hotels fell by 30% in just 11 months, official figures have suggested.
A total of £2.1billion was spent on it between April 2024 and March 2025 — an average of about £5.7million per day.
This was down from £3billion, or £8.3million daily, the previous year.
A senior Home Office source said one major factor was that some asylum seekers had been moved into cheaper accommodation, such as room sharing.
